Special Parenting & Counselling (English)

Special Parenting & Counselling
Parenting a special need child is like juggling on a tight rope. Firstly this sudden and unexpected blow can leave parents battling with confusion & distress. Indeed there is unawareness about unusual, unknown medical problem. Endless probing, advices from friends, relatives and questions & doubts in the eyes of strangers can further add on the stress. As time flows by, parents start facing the bitter truth, put up a brave face & get ready to accept the real situation practically. The clock continues ticking; responsible parenting begins by burying the hurt deep within the heart.

Destiny does not give any concessions in other life problems because parents have special need child. Sometimes other problem can become ‘The straw that breaks the camel’s back’. The loving, ever willing parents take on this battle ‘Head On’ and are seen multitasking and struggling to fulfill all their responsibilities. This demands tremendous physical and mental energy, strength, courage & patience.

‘Ideal Parenting’ is the need of the hour. The center of attention is the child. The child has the parent, but where can the parent turn to? Surely the parents deserve and need required moral support & guidance to face this lifelong journey of parenting. They are either not aware or ignore and neglect their own personal needs & wants or there is no such service available. This need is then partially fulfilled by talking with doctors or therapists but it is not enough & adequate.

A parent is very much entitled to be aware towards his / her own psycho emotional health & needs and pay attention to fulfill those and by doing so your child is going to be benefited ultimately. It is very much similar to instructions given during a plane journey stress that ‘Parents are requested to put on their oxygen masks before helping the child with his /her mask’. A little support, helping hand, timely guidance can be an aid in developing more efficient parenting skill.

What to do? Where to go? The answer is ‘counseling”.

What is counseling? Do I need? How can I identify this need? How I will be benefitted?
